Patches In Blue

I think it is safe to safe I own a fairly large denim jean collection, roughly 2 dozen or so. Many of them are recent purchases that have a unique embellishment so I can slip on a blazer and a pair of heels and feel "dressed".  I needed to update my ordinary blue jeans to join the rest of the stable of peals, sequin and rhinestones.

A hot iron and a little imagination is all you need. My examples above are embroidered patches purchased from online shopping for under $8 each.  These patches are specified iron-on instead of sew-on.  Think of a theme and start shopping.

UPDATE: December 2024

In December 2023, I conceived the jeans (top) with black heart patches.
Today December 2024, fashion brand hashtag
Forever21 showcases their jeans with black heart patches on their website.
Am I a hashtagFashion Trendsetter?
Is it too late to find my calling?

USB Music File Sort

What the online Forums can't tell you-

Although this post is not related to any subject matter usual to this blog, (Fashion - Food - Travel) I felt strongly enough to share the process of creating personalized music file sorting on a USB 3.0 flash drive.  Playback unfortunately will always default to the order originally recorded. None of the Forums that I could read had the answer, but I did it.

I recorded mp3 files from two music cd's; Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong onto one usb 3.0 32GB flash drive. I wanted to sort the playlist to alternate songs between the two artists.  After combining the two disk folders into one,  I simply renamed each song file in alternating Artist song order assigning ascending numerical designation; e.g. 1., 2., 3. etc., but this did not create a personalized playback.  The player would continue to only recognize the order in which the files were originally transferred first playing all of Sinatra playlist then the Armstrong playlist.

The solution I created was to make a new folder within the file segment that housed all 40 songs, giving the new folder a different name from the original 40-song library, and one by one I cut/paste from the original list of 40 songs to the new folder. Thus eventually deleting the first library and creating a new library that recognized the order I manually created. No clunky third-party software download required.
Problem solved.

How To Make A Money Lei

My TALL Blonde You Tube video is so popular on how to make a Money Lei it probably deserves a re-post.  A Money Lei is a fun and unique gift that are popular among high school and college graduations.  But there is a growing interest in making one for a Quinceanera or make two of these beauties to present the Bride and Groom.

By clicking on the link below from my TALL Blonde Stories archive you will find written instructions along with step-by-step photos on how to make a Money Lei yourself, it's easy.

This is not only a unique and fun gift but my Money Lei is made from 50-one dollar bills which is also your gift and more fun than a $50 check inside a greeting card.

Veil Fettish

Hottest thing in women's hat fashion  since the Cowgirl Hat. A Christian Dior veiled hat is over $400, even a veiled Eugenia Kim is over $200.  For about 5-bucks and 10 minutes of your time your knit cap can also look like a million bucks,,,well at least $200.

Here is Luisa's quick DIY from her Why Don't You Make Me blog with easy instructions to add a veil to your favorite knit cap. Before you get started, it might look best if you begin with a new cap.

Help Is Here

Warm weather is finally here and what comes with it is fashion that sometimes requires specialized undies. Many a time I used to pass on a summer garment because it required a strapless bra.  I visibly cringe with the thought of the destruction and damage to sensitive skin at the end of the day from the digging underwire, not to mention the constant maintenance of "slippage".

Help is here-

My private secret that I have held close to the heart (literally) is now published.   I use washable stick glue to keep everything in place. Here is how:

1. Put on your strapless bra where it is comfortable and the placement is correct
2. Gently pull back on the side strap under your arm, so as to not disturb bra placement
3. Swipe glue stick in a north / south motion once or twice on your skin the length of the strap
4. Place side strap back and press
5. Done! This holds for me the rest of the day. Note: clean skin will ensure success

You're welcome !

Let The Light Out

Orchids grown indoors require a special pot. The roots below ground require air to circulate through the bits of bark entwined in its root system.  These pots with its air holes also make great luminaries for parties or just a little mood lighting when it is just you.  Scour your local hardware store for interesting shapes, colors and designs.

ProTip; I only use candles that are sold in a glass container, saves on messy melted wax clean up.

Valentine Date Class

Retailer Sur La Table offers their well known cooking classes online, only $29 per household.  How about a great Valentine gift for your BFF or Special Someone?

Gift Giving

Today is October 25th
Two months away from December 25
I will bet many more people will shop online for the holiday season this year
Use Amazon Wish List for all your family members
Have each person curate their own list for all the holidays and birthday during the year, this will ensure you always select the correct size, color, etc.
The wish list is not limited to Amazon items, you can add items from other websites.
TALL Blonde even uses this to keep track of home project ideas, outdoor landscaping ideas, etc.

Press Paint Peel Nail Stencils

Nail Stencil kits can be fun whether it is one nail or all ten. TALL Blonde's favorites are the "Tiffany Blue Box with White Bow", and the "Have A Nice Day" yellow. Dog lovers, we got you covered too. 12 different kit collections available, CUSTOM ORDERS AVAILABLE.

Not A Scam

You but the expensive scented laundry detergents and your clean laundry does not smell of wildflowers or the ocean breeze.  Is this a Proctor and Gamble scam?  Not at all. It just means your clean clothes are not really clean.
Baking Soda simply makes detergent products more efficient and takes away that lingering musty smell.  Be aware that because it makes soap better at its job, you may need to slightly dial down the amount of detergent you currently use. Breathe deep again.

Aye Matey

Ahoy Matey, today (September 19) is the annual International Talk Like A Pirate Day, really!  I always wear my Betsey Johnson necklace and matching earrings on this day and tomorrow will continue the tradition.  My point today is be silly, have fun, and don't give a damn what others say as long as it makes you feel good. I know I will be smiling 😀.

Play

Here I go again. TALLBlonde has another footwear related post. I never knew I allegedly have a foot fetish, but here goes.  TALLBlonde has had great fun and success with wearing embellished socks with high heel pumps.  Fun, because shopping for interesting socks can be a scavenger hunt.  Success, because I get great comments and thumbs up from random folks on the street that "get" what I am doing. Ankle socks with no cuff is really the silhouette that is most desirable to compliment the pump. Also if you can locate a design with one forward facing object is ideal; such as the teal colored example above, a cat playing the accordion. The teal in the sock almost identically matches the color of the shoe that many observers believe I am wearing an interesting ankle boot.

There is another unintended consequence that may ultimately drive you to trying this.  Do you have a favorite pair of pumps you refuse to toss out but hate wearing them because they rub your foot raw, or worse create a blister? Blister no more!!

Old Shoes, New Anklets

Here is a TALLBlonde DIY to update your favorite summer shoe and give it a new look with anklets you made yourself in minutes. At any craft store put together a collection of beads complimentary to the color of your shoe and select an equally complimentary colored string for this project. Be sure the bead hole will accommodate the width of the string when doubled.

(2) 60-inch strings
TALLBlonde used nylon, you can also use leather

Enough beads to measure the length of 7 to 8 inches
(this will be enough for two anklets)

Fold the length of one string in half and make a knot approx. 2-inches up. This will be your toe loop and keep the beads from sliding around.  Begin to string half your beads with BOTH string ends at the opposite end of the toe loop.  Make another simple knot after the last bead to keep them in place, and your done!  If you selected a string that may unravel at the cut ends you may have to tie a knot to stop the unraveling.

To wear, slide the toe loop over the middle or second toe, whatever will center correctly over the top of your foot, lead string ends up to your ankle and wrap around ankle several times and tie a nice bow. There you have it-a new summer look that is easy, dressy one of a kind fabulous!

Charmed to Meet You

Here is the simplest of DIY jewelry projects. Every time TALLBlonde wears hers, numerous complements are given and questions are asked.  My favorite teller at my bank today said "When I get home tonight I am raiding my daughter's jewel box!"

First, get a short neck chain, traditionally 16-inches in length.

Second, find your old charm bracelets that you no longer wear because they have fallen out of fashion.

Third, clip it to the necklace with the usual bracelet clasp (lobster claw, etc.)

The example above shows two charm bracelets hooked on to a single chain.
EASY !!

Money Lei

Graduation time is upon us again! Yeah, I feel another year older.  With 50-singles, some string and a glue stick, it is easy to make a gift that is memorable, wearable and spendable.  Admit it, you were going to be boring and just put a check inside a card weren't you?

This is an excellent gift idea for a Quinceanera or Baby Shower-

Scrounge Garage Sales

Recently TALL Blonde was inspired by a Chanel magazine photo that presented a denim jacket with a string of pearls and a big white camelia brooch at the top button, as if to be worn as a blouse and not outerwear.

I gathered up every pin I could find in my collection, laid my Target jacket on the floor and began placing pins for the best layout. Pins are easy to find; craft shops, garage sales, antique fairs, thrift shops and of course online in places like Etsy and Ruby Lane. Yoiu can collect pins one by one or in your search look for "lots" and buy several at a time and give your project a running jump.

You may want to think about curating your brooch collection within a theme, such as flowers, hearts, animals, singular color, rhinestone, enamel, white or yellow metal, etc.

TALL Blonde plans to add to this collection an cover the front of the jacket as a show piece.
